Thank you Dean for the time and encouragement you give to my son through the TKD outreach. It has been a blessing to him in many ways and a great spiritual encouragement.

Patience and Perseverance – April 10, 2007

Patience is probably a big part of any person’s life—there are always things you have to do that you don’t want to, people you don’t like, and so on and so forth. Right now, patience is –as always- important in my life, too. At school, I had an English teacher last term that made me really frustrated because she was a perfectionist and studied psychology. If anyone knew how to make an entire class feel like a bunch of idiots, it was her. (And English is my favorite subject.) Thankfully, being patient with her paid off. Despite the teacher seeming woefully unreasonable, my willingness to push onward granted me a high “A” in the course… one of only a few. In Tae Kwon Do, I’m horrifically bad at pivoting during kicks. I think my socks are partly to blame, but in addition, it’s likely that I give up on the idea too soon. However, whilst focusing, I’ve managed to make it work as of late. It’s an improvement thanks to patience.

The Bible has a thing or two to say on the subject, too. God is patient with all of us, waiting for us to change (Romans, 2:4), and most importantly, waiting for us to be patient with each other. By believing in the Holy Spirit, God can give us love, joy, patience, peace (Galatians, 5:22), and many other things. So, not only can we learn patience and perseverance from others and within ourselves, but from the Lord, too.
